Home Additions

Master suites, sunrooms, in-law suites. New square footage that reads like it was always part of the house. We match the existing rooflines, framing, and finishes so the addition disappears into the original home.

Your Vision & Needs,

Our Expertise

A home addition is one of the most complex projects a homeowner can undertake, requiring structural integration with the existing home, permit coordination, and a craftsman who understands how old and new construction connect. Steve Melton Construction has built dozens of additions across Charlotte and Union County NC, from simple bedroom additions to full two-story expansions with new garages. We handle design coordination, foundation work, framing, roofing tie-in, and all interior finish work so the addition is indistinguishable from original construction.

Home Additions That Look Like They Were Always There

A home addition is among the most technically demanding projects a homeowner can undertake. It requires structural integration with an existing home, roofline matching, foundation work, and a contractor who understands how old and new construction meet. Done right, an addition reads as original. Done wrong, it looks tacked on.

Steve Melton Construction has built dozens of additions across Charlotte and Union County NC, from simple bedroom expansions to full two-story builds with attached garages. In every case, the goal is the same: when you look at the finished house from the street, you shouldn't be able to tell where the old stopped and the new began.

What's Included in a Home Addition

  • Design coordination and permit acquisition
  • Foundation work (slab, crawl space, or basement to match existing)
  • Structural framing integrated with existing home
  • Roofline tie-in — matched to existing pitch, material, and profile
  • Exterior siding, windows, and doors to match existing home
  • Mechanical rough-in coordination (HVAC, plumbing, electrical extension)
  • Insulation and drywall
  • All interior finish work — flooring, trim, paint, built-ins
  • Final inspections and certificate of occupancy

Types of Additions We Build

  • Master bedroom suites — bedroom, walk-in closet, and en-suite bath
  • In-law apartments — attached or detached with full kitchen and bath
  • Sunrooms and three-season rooms
  • Mudroom and laundry room additions
  • Garage additions — attached or detached, single or multi-car
  • Two-story additions — adding a full floor to an existing structure
  • Garage conversions to finished living space

The Structural Side of Additions

Every addition requires a structural engineer's stamp on the connection point between old and new framing. We coordinate that process from the start. Steve has built on slab foundations, crawl space foundations, and basement foundations, and he knows how to tie new framing into existing bearing walls without compromising the structural integrity of your home. That's not something every remodeler offers.

Permitting and Inspections

Home additions always require permits — in Mecklenburg County, Union County, and all surrounding municipalities. Steve Melton Construction handles the full permit application, all required inspections, and the final certificate of occupancy. You won't have to navigate the county permit office yourself.

Timeline

Most home additions run 3 to 6 months depending on size and complexity. We'll give you a realistic timeline at the estimate stage — not a sales number adjusted later.

Service Area

We build home additions throughout Charlotte, Monroe, Waxhaw, Weddington, Ballantyne, Indian Trail, Marvin, and surrounding Mecklenburg and Union County, NC communities.
