Your Vision & Needs,

Our Expertise

Custom millwork is the hallmark of a truly custom home, and it's where Steve Melton's background as a master carpenter comes to life. We design and install custom built-ins, entertainment centers, home office built-ins, mudroom lockers, window seats, coffered ceilings, wainscoting, crown molding packages, fireplace surrounds, custom stair trim, and more. Every piece is precision-fitted to your space and finished with the same care as fine furniture. Our millwork services are available as standalone projects or as part of a larger renovation or new build.

Custom Millwork: Where Steve Melton's Name Was Made

Steve Melton learned finish carpentry from his father Wayne, a master carpenter who believed the millwork was where a home told the truth about the builder. Forty years later, Steve still does the most demanding trim work himself. Not because he has to — because it's the thing he does better than anyone else in the Charlotte area, and both he and his clients know it.

Custom millwork is available as a standalone service — meaning you don't need a full renovation to work with us. If your home has a room that needs custom built-ins, a fireplace surround that deserves a real surround, or a staircase that should have been finished properly from the start, we'll take the project.

Custom Millwork Services We Provide

  • Built-in bookcases and shelving — floor-to-ceiling, flanking fireplaces, home offices
  • Entertainment centers and media walls
  • Home office built-ins — desks, cabinets, and shelving designed for how you work
  • Mudroom lockers and built-in storage
  • Window seats with storage
  • Coffered ceilings — standard grid, beamed, or custom pattern
  • Wainscoting and board-and-batten
  • Crown molding packages — from simple profiles to stacked multi-piece assemblies
  • Fireplace surrounds and mantels
  • Custom stair trim — newel posts, balusters, treads, and skirt boards
  • Shiplap, paneling, and accent walls

How We Approach Custom Millwork

Every millwork project begins with a site measurement and a conversation about what you're trying to achieve. We don't work from a catalog — we design to the room. That means accounting for ceiling heights that vary by an inch across a span, corners that aren't quite square, and transitions that need to die into an existing floor or wall in a way that looks intentional.

All pieces are built to fit and finished on-site. Paint-grade millwork gets primed and caulked so your painter has a surface that's ready to finish. Stain-grade work is sanded to final grit before we leave. The quality standard is furniture-grade, not contractor-grade.

Standalone Projects Welcome

You don't need a full renovation to hire us for millwork. We take standalone built-in, ceiling detail, and trim projects. If the job is worth doing right, we'll take it. Minimum project size applies — call to discuss.

Service Area

Custom millwork projects are completed throughout Charlotte, Monroe, Waxhaw, Weddington, Ballantyne, Indian Trail, Marvin, and surrounding Union County, NC.
